Building Shelves, Building Community
Something special has been happening down at Wyndham Park Community Shed this month. Shed volunteer Shaun has been hard at work crafting eight brand-new library shelving units for Davis Creek Primary School, with help from fellow Men’s Shed members Peter Vaux and Bennie Stott.
The project was commissioned by the school with the woodwork members in the Men’s Shed helping make the shelves to raise funds for the Community Shed, and it’s been a win for everyone involved. Adding to the collaboration, Bunnings Hoppers Crossing also generously chipped in with materials support, helping make the project possible.
Librarian Krista Thomas from Davis Creek Primary School said:
“Davis Creek Primary School is delighted to partner with the Wyndham Park Community Shed to create new shelving for our range of picture books. These shelves will provide our students with custom-designed, accessible, and inviting shelving making their selection of a picture book to read so much more enjoyable. Partnering with the Wyndham Park Community Shed means we know that our shelves will be within our budget and made with care and expertise from our local community, allowing us to support a worthwhile community project and providing our students with a more interesting and appealing way to view and select from our range of picture books.”
It’s another great example of how local partnerships can make a big difference — connecting schools, community volunteers, and local businesses to achieve social outcomes that benefit everyone. Our Community Shed is proud to play a small part in helping create spaces where learning, creativity, and community spirit can all grow together.
