Ceramics Classes at Wyndham Park Community Shed

Ceramics classes are run in a dedicated facility at the back of the Community Shed, 57a Kookaburra Avenue Werribee. Melissa Murphy-Vella, VCA graduate with over 20 years of ceramics and sculpting experience, teaches classes suited to all levels, from beginners to emerging artists. The ceramics program is fully equipped with high-quality hand tools and a wide variety of clays and glazes. The Shed now also hosts 4 brand new pottery wheels, thanks to Wyndham City Council.

“The beauty of ceramics is that there are so many aspects involved. Whether it be hand building, throwing on the wheel, slip casting, surface design or glaze chemistry, it is truly limitless. One of the biggest highlights of teaching ceramics and art would have to be meeting so many amazing people over the years, fellow artists, teachers and students of all ages, even as young as two years old, which is an absolute delight. My aim is to support and guide students, giving them the confidence and flexibility to embark on their very own personal journey with clay.”

Like the rest of our Community Shed activities, the ceramics classes adopt the “shoulder to shoulder” approach, providing a safe and friendly environment for students to chat with others, increasing their social interactions and alleviating loneliness.

“The ceramics program is for everyone. Every term we have new participants, and every term new connections and friendships are made.”

Through hands-on creativity, ceramics serves as an outlet for expressing emotions and relieving anxiety, depression, and stress, promoting the mental health of our students through the creative process.

Classes are run on a termly basis on Mondays or Tuesdays with a maximum of 10 participants per class, per term.
