Men's Shed at Wyndham Park Community Shed
Wyndham Park Community Shed is home to the Werribee Men’s Shed, one of Wyndham’s long-standing social groups. Today, the tradition continues every Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 3pm, when members gather to work on projects, share skills, and enjoy the company of others.
Like many Men’s Sheds across Australia, the shed began as a simple idea: create a place where people can come together, stay active, and enjoy a sense of purpose and mateship. Over the years, it has grown into an important part of the Wyndham community, offering a space where members can work with their hands and share banter while forming friendships and supporting one another. Men’s Sheds are built around the idea that good health and wellbeing come from feeling productive, connected, and involved in your community.

Working, Learning, and Connecting
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the shed comes alive with activity. Members spend time in the woodwork and metalwork areas, repairing items, building projects, restoring bikes, and helping with community initiatives. Others might be fixing tools, working in the garden, or simply sharing a cuppa while chatting with fellow members. The focus is not just on the projects themselves, but on the sense of camaraderie that comes from working side by side and learning from one another.
More Than Just a Shed
For many members, the shed is much more than a workshop. It is a place where people can step out of their homes, meet others, and find a supportive network of mates. In this way, the shed plays an important role in relieving social isolation and supporting positive mental health, providing a relaxed environment where conversation and connection happen naturally while people work together.
Shed Member Peter Vaux, a major contributor to the woodwork area, sums it up well:
“This place makes you aware it’s not just you in the world, there’s other people that need help too.”
That sense of community and shared purpose is something many members value deeply. Whether someone is working on a personal project, helping repair items for the community, or passing on their skills to others, everyone contributes in their own way. Oftentimes, simply lending an ear to a mate at the Shed twice a week is what matters most.
For Jon Johnson, who spends much of his time in the metalwork area and repairing the Shed’s many machines, the importance of the shed is simple but powerful:
“The people in the Shed need it to get out of the house and talk. That’s all they need, somewhere they feel comfortable enough to talk.”
That idea sits at the heart of the Men’s Shed movement. Sometimes the most meaningful conversations don’t happen in formal settings, but while people are standing side by side, working on a project together. It’s these casual conversations that help men open up about things they might not normally talk about, providing an important outlet for their thoughts and mental wellbeing. The Men’s Shed at Wyndham Park Community Shed provides exactly that kind of space — somewhere people can feel useful, welcomed, and part of a community.
Whether members come to build, repair, volunteer, or simply enjoy a chat and a cup of tea, the shed continues to be a place where skills are shared, friendships are formed, and community spirit grows.
